Source: IGGMWith Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, FromSoftware is bringing a major update to the world of Elden Ring that’s almost like a sequel to the game. Players will explore a new, expansive area filled with weapons and secrets to discover.
Shadow of the Erdtree expands on the original game’s rich mythology, continuing its style of ambiguous storytelling through unique item descriptions, carefully crafted environmental clues, and key NPC dialogue that speaks volumes but is cryptic.
Fans have become accustomed to this style of piecing together the story’s fragments, and this is particularly evident in Elden Ring’s quest design. That said, here are some of the great new side quests that players shouldn't miss - their rewards, including some Elden Ring Runes, are definitely worth the effort.
5. Moore
In Belurat, Tower Settlement area of Lands of Shadow, players can first encounter an NPC named Moore. He comes across as a gentle, soft-spoken guy whose main purpose is to sell items and look after his “friends”.
To start Moore’s quest, simply follow these “friends” and collect various Forager Cookbooks from them. However, proceed with caution, as these “friends” are actually the game’s dreaded Kindred of Rot enemies, and if you attack them, Moore will invade the player.
After collecting the required books and Black Syrup, the next goal is to track down Thiollier, and then speak to Moore again after destroying Miquella’s Charm. Tarnished will face a critical decision. To obtain all the rewards - Moore’s armor set and hefty Verdigris Shield - it is recommended to allow him to invade after Enir-Ilim incident.
4. Sir Ansbach
This former knight captain, wearing a unique headdress, is first encountered at Main Gate Cross site of grace, and his quest line will intersect with other quests. Once Miquella’s Charm is broken, players will need to return to Sir Ansbach’s initial encounter and speak to him, then find him again in Storehouse on First Floor in Shadow Keep. He’ll ask for Secret Rite Scroll - give it to him and continue your adventure in Lands of Shadow.
Tarnished After completing a few quest steps related to Needle Knight Leda, players should be able to find a summon sign in Shadow Keep Storehouse. After completing this challenge, players will then need to participate in a battle against Miquella’s followers, during which they can summon Sir Ansbach to assist.
After the battle, speak to Sir Ansbach and Thiollier to have them appear as the last opponent, and then receive their weapons, armor sets, and an Incantation as rewards.
3. Hornsent
Hornsent, a mysterious and vengeful warrior, is first encountered at Three-Path Cross site of grace. After speaking to him there and later defeating Divine Beast Dancing Lion and obtaining Scorpion Stew, you can find him again at Highroad Cross site of grace. He will gratefully eat the meal. He will then be available as a summonable ally to assist you in the fight against Golden Hippopotamus outside Shadow Keep Main Gate.
Return to Highroad Cross site of grace and speak to Needle Knight Leda. She will give you the choice of pursuing Thiollier or Hornsent, but regardless of your choice, she will eventually pursue Hornsent, resulting in two summon signs in Shadow Keep.
Choose the gold summon signs to assist Hornsent, which will give you Ash of War: Swift Slash and Leda’s Rune. Afterwards, summon him to help you defeat Messmer, complete all the relevant conversations, and he will invade Church of the Bud, Main Entrance, leaving Falx, his armor set and a soiled loincloth behind.
2. Igon
While exploring west from Pillar Path Waypoint, Tarnished will hear Igon screaming before seeing him in person, a cry of pain from a dragon. After speaking with Igon at this location, continue your journey to defeat the first Jagged Peak Drake and find Grand Alter of Dragon Communion. Then kill two more Jagged Peak Drakes and report back to Igon to receive Igon’s Furled Finger.
After this, players are tasked with defeating Ancient Dragin Senessax, who is quite similar to Lansseax from the original game. From the north exit, follow the trail of fallen dragons to the top of Jagged Peak, using spiritsprings to climb higher.
Squeeze through a narrow cave entrance and you’ll be confronted by Bayle the Dread. Igon’s summon sign will appear somewhere in the arena, accompanied by his fascinating dialogue. Once the dragon is vanquished, return to the foot of the mountain, where you can collect Igon’s armor set, his greatbow, and Bell Bearing as rewards.
1. Count Ymir, High Priest
When Tarnished goes deeper into Cathedral of Manus Metyr, there is a chance to speak with Count Ymir. Next, the player is tasked with finding and ringing the bell in Finger Ruins of Rhia. After completing this task, return to Count Ymir to obtain the second Ruins Map, and then continue to Scaduview. In Finger Ruins of Dheo, there is another bell waiting to be rung, which can also be obtained from Count Ymir.
Continue exploring the dungeon until you find the last bell in Finger Ruins of Miyr. Afterwards, the player will face Finger Ruins of Miyr, and afterward return to Cathedral of Manus Metyr to interact with the vacant throne, which will trigger an invasion by Swordhand of Night Jolan, who must also be defeated.
After the battle, Tarnished can collect High Priest set, Maternal Staff, and Ymir’s Bell Bearing as rewards. Finally, go to the graveyard to find Cherishing Fingers item to complete this quest.
Each of the above quests is full of challenges and rich rewards. Enter the game and start experiencing it!
