With WOW Classic Season of Discovery here, now is the perfect time to embark on a relaxing fishing trip!

In this guide, I’ll introduce you to the basics of fishing while also showing you the best places to fish, quality materials for sale, and how to make a profit by farming trunks and materials.

Select Class

First, since Season of Discovery Phase 1 has a level cap of 25 and is fairly easy to reach, I recommend that you create an alt dedicated to fishing and exploring.

The best class to do this is Druid, as it has Aquatic Form ability and Stealth ability in cat form. Aquatic Form will put you in an excellent position against the more powerful enemies we’ll encounter later. And Stealth ability will also allow you to camp out and take a break from a long session without having to run back to a more remote location.

I also recommend Enchanting and Herbalism to increase our earning potential! Most importantly, be sure to pack your bags before heading out to explore.

Fishing Trainer

However, before you start, you need to find Fishing Trainer in your camp’s major city. They will provide you with initial training and basic fishing pole. Of course, you can also buy fishing pole directly from fishing suppliers or general goods vendors.

Fishing Lures

Fishing Lures provided by fishing or trade goods vendors can temporarily improve your fishing skills and are very important in subsequent steps. We should note that as long as you have Aquadynamic Fish Attractor, you must buy it unless you are low on WOW Classic SOD Gold.

Choose A Fishing Spot

You can then start your fishing trip in a low-level area corresponding to your faction, such as Elwynn Forest, Teldrassil, Dun Morogh, or Durotar.

I recommend Horde to use Bloodhoof Village because there is a fishing trainer and vendor right by the lake. For the same reason, Alliance also has a fishing trainer and vendor in Stormwind outside Trade District.

How To Fish?

While you’re here, be sure to pick up one recipe: Brilliant Smallfish. Then equip the fishing pole and stand near the water’s edge.

Right-click on the fishing skill icon in the spellbook to cast the line. Bind this function to any key, just like any other ability. When you see the float splashing, click on it to hook the fish.

Fish such as Raw Brilliant Smallfish, Raw Longjaw Mud Snapper, or Raw Slitherskin Mackerel can be caught in Starting Zone.

Some locations I mentioned earlier have the highest concentrations of Raw Brilliant Smallfish. But here are our prizes at the lower levels. They sell for 1.5 Silver on Auction House because we use them in supply crates.

You can continue fishing in lower-level fishing areas until around skill level 55. Once you have this, you should no longer fish open water, but look for Whirlpool.

The only fish of value at the moment are Oily Blackmouth and Deviate Fish. These sell for about 1 WoW SoD gold each and are our key to making money from fishing.

Tips

As you run along the coast, you’ll sometimes come across Floating Debris pools. If you see one of these, drop in any other pools you are nearby and can fish from.

More frequently, they will provide you with boxes containing very expensive materials. These include Mana Potion, which sells for 1 Classic SoD gold each on Auction House, or Heavy Leather, which is also valuable.

Also, you can find Stranglekelp and Clams interacting in the water. Be sure to open them as they may contain Pearls that sell for up to 7 gold on Auction House.

Rumsey Rum is another item that can be obtained from wreckage and pools. You can also use your enchanting to break down any bad green items you get from trunks into enchanting materials.

What To Do With Your Catch?

You may consider upgrading Cooking and Fishing together. Because we can use many fish in Cooking recipes and are sometimes worth more when cooked.

Or you can choose to sell them. However, before you blindly sell your fish at the local auction house to earn a small income, check the prices of popular fish in the market. Compare them to the processed versions and decide whether to break them down into enchanting materials to increase profits.
